For as long as I can remember, there was a Scottish Terrier (also known as a "Scottie") in the house. Our first female was named Scotty, back when we were living in Black Diamond, Alberta.

It was 1961 when I began breeding dogs. Tammy was our next little girl after Scotty, born September 5, 1960. My Mother and Dad bought Shanter, a male, for $25 - Weeks Shanter Lucky Rio, born July 30, 1960, was a superb black Terrier, purchased from Mrs. W. Hodgson. In August of '61 I bought my first female, Melanee's Daisy Fare, born 20 April 1958; she was a brindle, purchased from Mrs. Gladys Lowther. My first litter yeilded four pups, two male, two female, all brindle. My first was Ch. Darkfauld's Decembear - "Bear." His sire was Ch. Bardene Blue McLean (GRB). My first American import AM CDN Ch Anstamm Daring Venture from Buffy Stamm. What a smashing dog he was. He had a great impact on the quality of Scottish Terriers in Canada.

Greatbear has bred and finished over 60 champion dogs.

We have an Int. Ch. (Wheaten) Scotty Bitch, and an Int. Spanish and Portuguese Ch. (Wheaten) Scotty Dog in Spain. We have a (Wheaten) Scotty Bitch in England. Our newest foreign champion is "Flyer", a male wheaten Thai Champion. Our dogs have found homes for show and pet in the Czech Republic, England, Spain, Italy, USA and Canada.

I've been and member and participated in a number of scottie and kennels clubs, including:

• Scottish Terrier Club of America (since 1975)
• Canadian Scottish Terrier Club (20 years)
• Scottish Terrier Breeders and Exhibitors (since 1979)
• Norwich Terrier Club of England (10 years)
• Alberta Kennel Club (member since 1969, president for 11 years)
• All-Terrier Club of Alberta (member since 1969, president for 18 years)

We are on 10 acres in the foothills of Alberta, Canada, only 40 minutes away from Calgary International Airport (customs open 24 hours a day).
